Coming to Relate
Counselling - What we offer
Initially we offer a consultation with a counsellor: this is for 1 hour 15 minutes. In the first 15 minutes we ask you to complete a before-service evaluation form.
You will then meet with a counsellor who will talk through your concerns with you and help you decide which of our services is most likely to be suitable for you.
Costs
We are a not for profit organisation and only get limited grant aid. The cost of appointments is £45. You will not be refused counselling if you are unable to pay the full cost and we will discuss that on an individual basis. People in receipt of unemployment benefit can have a reduced cost appointment of £10, for a daytime appointment.
If you are wanting help with a sexual problem, and are registered with a Bury GP you will be able to have some appointments at no cost to you. We will need a letter of referral from your GP.
Further Appointments
If you decide to make a further appointment, we ask you to register with us, making a payment of £20, and giving at least 3 possible appointment times.
This fee is then deducted from the cost of the first appointment. We aim to offer an appointment within 7-14 days but this may be longer if you need to have a very specific time.
The average number of appointments is between 6 and 10.
Confidentiality & Safety
Relate offers private and confidential help to our clients. We will not normally give your name or any information about you to anyone outside the organisation unless we have reason to believe that someone, especially a child, is at risk of serious harm.
Violence and abuse is an issue for many people who come to us for help with their relationship. We know from our experience that in this situation, working with both partners together may not be safe. If this is so, we would help each partner to get individual specialist support from Relate or another agency.
